Family and Childcare Support

The Graduate School of North American Studies promotes the
reconcilability of parenthood and academic research activity. It thus grants doctoral candidates with children additional financial support to their regular scholarships.

Furthermore, in 2009, the Board of the Graduate School decided to adopt a recommendation made by the German Research Foundation (DFG) which offers (prospective) parents two options: mothers or fathers can either ask for additional financial support for child care services or extend their scholarship for up to twelve months in order to finish their dissertation. Detailed information on the GSNAS' measures of family and childcare support can be obtained from the Graduate School's office.
